It is a nation that elicits strong opinions and emotions across the globe. For a long time, Israel has been on the receiving end of anti-Semitic sentiments and actions. In Israel Against All Odds, Christopher H. K. Persaud presents the journey of the Jewish people from centuries past to their position today. At every turn, the people of Israel have had to fight for survival as they faced multiple expulsion orders from numerous countries in various continents. Then the inconceivable happened during the Holocaust when over six million Jews and five million other people were slaughtered in Europe during the World War II years by the Nazis. The disheartening twist is that many people have little or no idea of what took place during this period. Worse still, some even deny the magnitude of the atrocious crimes carried out by Adolf Hitler and other perpetrators. Still more shocking is the fact that many people never learned from the Holocaust, and even today, some world leaders continue to promote and support the evil that is anti-Semitism.

There are many questions that Christopher H. K. Persaud answers in Israel Against All Odds (Volume One). Among them are: What is anti-Semitism? What are the different types of anti-Semitism that exist today? What misguided notions feed anti-Semitism in the modern world? The book is well structured and presented. Persaud writes on the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and how the movement has been used as a disguised attempt to vilify Israel and the Jews. He also shares on the Iranian nuclear deal and the costly assumptions made by the world leaders who saw the agreement through. Despite the bleak future that seems to face the nation of Israel, Persaud ends the book with a note of hope. Rigorously researched and excellently written, Israel Against All Odds (Volume One) is an eye-opening read.
