Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago - A Strategic Planning Retreat (SPR) for the UN Multi Country Sustainable Development Framework (UN MSDF) for the Caribbean will be held on December 3rd, 2015, in Trinidad and Tobago. The keynote address will be delivered by the Minister of Planning and Development Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the honorable Camille Robinson-Regis.
The purpose of the SPR is to present the synthesized results of the national consultations that were held across the Caribbean, including in Trinidad and Tobago. The event will allow experts to work together to finalize the strategic priorities and expected outcomes which will guide the further development of the UN MSDF. This process will provide further support to governments in implementing the S.A.M.O.A (SIDS Accelerated Modalities of Action) pathway commitments, while addressing the challenges of Caribbean Small Island Developing States in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
To date, national consultations have been held in Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, Belize, Barbados, the nine OECS countries and overseas territories, and Trinidad and Tobago to identify the common country priorities for the UN MSDF.
The vision of an inclusive, equitable and prosperous Caribbean builds on the core SDG concept of equitable development for all, “leaving no one behind” as a prerequisite for prosperous and sustainable societies.
The UN MSDF will be based on a multi-sectorial approach, which will build on the comparative advantage of each UN entity, with a view to focusing on the most vulnerable groups, including women and children.
