Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - FLIFF on Location 2012 will take place in Grand Bahama October 25 – 28 and the promotion of the film festival will begin at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival in May, FLIFF CEO Gregory von Hausch has announced.
“We look forward to building on last year’s inaugural, which was well received by the filmmakers,” Mr. von Hausch said.
Celebrated
actors, directors, producers and writers will once again arrive by sea
and air for the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival on Grand
Bahama Island, and film fans will have an opportunity to view a variety
of international films and original films made by Bahamians in the
Bahamas. The festival will be hosted at Canal House, Pelican Bay Hotel,
and the format will include the Lifetime Achievement Award, specialist
workshops, outdoor screenings, and local film competitions in three
categories: high school, college and independent. There will also be a
wrap party and awards at the Grand Lucayan Resort.
Bahamas
Film Commissioner Craig Woods explained that the festival's purpose is
to “feature Grand Bahama Island as a film location of choice, with
emphasis on proximity (to the United States), year-round good weather
and an available crew base, and (to) build a strong international
relationship with a tradition partner located nearby.”
Last
year’s festival commenced with an official opening ceremony that
featured a special video welcome message from international film legend,
Bahamian descendant and Academy Award winning actor Sir Sidney Poitier.
The event also brought
the premiere public showing of ‘
Beneath the Blue
’,
a feature that was filmed on location on Grand Bahama Island. The
participation of accomplished actor Dennis Haysbert rounded out the
FLIFF debut activities. Mr. Haysbert, star of such films as
‘
Jarhead
’
,
‘
Waiting to Exhale
’
, and
‘
Love & Basketball
’
, was the first recipient of the event's Lifetime Achievement Award.
"The
FLIFF on location Grand Bahama Island was a magnificent experience for
me. Everyone treated us with the utmost respect and hospitality. The
films and filmmakers were great, the festival extremely well organized
and of course the beauty of the island thoroughly exceeded my
expectations. Thank you FLIFF and GBI
!"
