Relevant & Informative: Internationally accredited ProNet Trainers, Donald Demeritte (standing right) and Maxine Harris (far left) are seen providing in-depth guidance and assistance to attendees of the recent ProNet Training. Done in collaboration with CEDA, GBPA offered the training to qualifying SMEs at no cost.

Freeport Grand Bahama - ‎A handful of local businesses, prepared to take their operations to the next level, capitalized on the ProNet Business Management Training offered by The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA), in collaboration with the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA). Supporting partners also included the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) and the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation (BAIC).

During the 2-day Business Strategy training, opened by GBPA President, Ian Rolle on Tuesday past, participants were exposed to a number of core principles essential to strategic planning and business operations. ProNet  facilitators, Donald Demeritte and Maxine Harris applauded GBPA's efforts in partnering with CEDA to expose and educate Grand Bahama's Small and Medium-sized enterprise (SME) community.

"As we  look at SME  activity throughout  The Bahamas, with regard to maximizing the potential of SMEs and building trade capacity, GBPA is definitely a trendsetter for embracing and offering the ProNet Training Modules to the Grand Bahama business community," Demeritte stated‎.

"The ProNet series was especially designed to assist SMEs. It is good to see that as the Licencing Authority in the city of Freeport, GBPA has taken a proactive approach to developing and empowering SMEs," he concluded.

Manager of GBPA's Enterprising Centre, Mr. Charles Pratt, explained that the ProNet Business Strategy Module is the first of a series of three which will conclude in May 2014, with the Export Marketing ‎Module.

"We were pleased with the number of participants that registered for the training. Based on their responses, everyone enjoyed the sessions and agree that they received valuable information and quality instruction that will enable them to develop strategies of their own, for process and customer management, as well as productivity management," stated Pratt.

"The next Module is scheduled for the end of April and, I can foresee that we will easily surpass the numbers for this initial session. This may present a challenge, as we can only accommodate 30 persons per module, so we encourage everyone to register early with BAIC, the Chamber of Commerce or with GBPA’s Enterprising Centre," he concluded.

Professional Critique: SMEs participating in the ProNet Business Training, received professional critique regarding their products and services.

The ProNet Business Strategy Module, culminated with a tour of the Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Company, where participants got a firsthand look at complex production, quality control and product strategy ‎systems.

Ms. Raquel Hart, former GBCC Director, shared that the training was an excellent beginning at changing the mindset of SMEs as opposed to simply conveying information that they would probably never use.

"The business strategy sessions were exceptionally good. It forced us to think through various  processes that affect the day-to-day and month-to-month operations of a business; and how you make it successful," Hart cited.

"As a business consultant, I found the training to be very informative and relevant to issues SMEs in The Bahamas, and Grand Bahama in particular are faced with. I commend GBPA for facilitating such a valuable initiative to benefit the SMEs of this community, and ultimately, the economy of Grand Bahama.”
