Steven Cantor and Daniel Levy

Nassau, Bahamas – From
the perspective of both individuals and financial institutions, it is
important to understand how U.S. cross-border tax enforcement impacts
wealth planning. To date, the U.S. Department of Justice and the
Internal Revenue Service have largely focused their efforts on
Switzerland. That has begun to change. U.S. lawyers Daniel W. Levy of
McKool Smith and Steven L. Cantor of Cantor & Webb will be featured
speakers at BFSB’s upcoming International Business & Finance Summit,
discussing what new law enforcement efforts may be on the horizon and
how individuals and financial institutions can plan for the coming wave
of investigations.
Daniel
Levy is a principal in McKool Smith's New York office. Prior to joining
the firm, he served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the
Southern District of New York for more than a decade. He has conducted
more than a dozen jury trials and argued more than fifteen appeals
before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit,
including several cases of first impression. He has led numerous
significant investigations, often ones with an international component,
and served as counsel for prosecutions involving all types of fraud
offenses, including money laundering, securities fraud, bank fraud,
accounting fraud, theft of trade secrets, identity theft, tax fraud,
FCPA violations, and computer crimes. He was named "Prosecutor of the
Year" by the Federal Enforcement Foundation in 2011 and 2013.
Steven Cantor has been recognized as one of the world’s leading international private client attorneys by Chambers Global and Chambers USA, as one of the Top 50 Foreign Lawyers for Latin America by the Latin Business Chronicle and has been quoted by the Wall Street Journal.
He heads Cantor & Webb, a Miami, Florida based law firm focused on
the representation of high net worth international private clientele and
international businesses in the areas of tax planning and compliance,
estate planning, international and domestic real estate and probate
matters, general commercial and international financial matters.
IBFS is now in its 12th
year, and remains a key feature on BFSB’s annual Calendar of Events. It
brings together financial services industry stakeholders from across
the spectrum of the sector as well as specially targetted international
intermediaries. This year the Summit is being held in Grand Bahama at
the Grand Lucayan Beach & Golf Resort, February 6th and 7th.
