Freeport, Bahamas - On his recent visit to Grand Bahama Island, to bring the keynote address at the Bahamas Society of Engineers luncheon, the Hon. Philip Brave Davis, accompanied by the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville toured the Okyanos Heart Institute, a state of the art, stem cell therapy facility, which will open its doors very soon.

In consultation with the private sector, the government of The Bahamas, through its aggressive legislative agenda, passed two land mark pieces of legislation, namely the Medical Act 2014 and the new Stem Cell legislation. These significant Bills were designed to revise the regulation of medical practice throughout The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and create new medical options and therapies for Bahamians, while at the same time revolutionizing the medical tourism industry.

As a result of this historical piece of legislation, Okyanos Heart Institute is slated to begin delivering this innovative new treatment, and now screening qualified heart disease candidates. The procedure will be performed in their newly constructed state-of-the-art Phillips catheterization lab.
