Grand Bahama mourns the loss of Jeffrey Bernard Butler

The Bahamas Weekly has learned of the passing of Grand Bahamas business man, Jeffrey Bernard Butler. He died in the Dominican Republic. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family.

Jeffrey Bernard Butler, Sr  was the Owner & CEO of The Butler Group of Companies. In his role, Jeff coordinated and managed the importation and buying side of the companies while overseeing the corporate and expansion aspects of the companies. He owned and operated local favourite spots, Butler's Specialty Food Store, Harbour Lobster, Shenanigans, Chicagos, and the Harbour Room.

A big believer in the island of Grand Bahama, Butler fully supported the FNM Government and The Grand Bahama Port Authority.

Butler was a combination of entrepreneur, corporate manager, pilot, author, sommelier, engineer, political and community activist.

In sports, he was the Bahamas and world record holder of the three mile ocean  swim, president of the GB Cycling Club and the first Grand Bahamian to represent the Bahamas Internationally in several ironman triathlons.

According to his website, Butler had more than thirty seven years experience in private business, thirty six years flying- 18,000 hours as pilot in command and twenty eight years in Food & beverage.

Butler was educated in West End, Nassau, Freeport and Toronto and had traveled through out thirty nine countries. He owned residences in Freeport, Ft Lauderdale and Toronto.

He  is a founding member of the Free National Movement and was strong supporter of many Grand Bahama organizations, such as the GB Chamber, the Humane Society, Freeport Players Guild, the Rotary Clubs, the Lions Club and many of the athletic organizations.

Jeff was a practicing Roman Catholic with five children and five grandchildren.

UPDATE: The funeral service for Jeffrey Butler will take place on Saturday, November 5th at Mary Star of the Sea church in Freeport at 2pm.
