Grand Bahamian Named Country Coordinator For The Commonwealth Youth Action Peace Network

Young attorney, Tamar Moss has been appointed as The Bahamas’ country coordinator for the Commonwealth Youth Action Peace Network (CYPAN). CYPAN brings together young people from across the Commonwealth to promote peace, respect and understanding and seeks to prevent violent extremism.

As Country Coordinator for The Bahamas, Ms. Moss will serve as the link between the pan-Commonwealth and Regional CYPAN communities. She will be required to establish a working team in The Bahamas and oversee the network’s activities within the country. These activities will be bolstered by partnerships with national organizations, government authorities, entrepreneurs and other networks with the country.

CYPAN is a new initiative established with the support of the Commonwealth Secretariat. It emerged out of consultations at the Commonwealth Youth Forum and after the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta in November 2015 which Ms. Moss attended and a partnership with the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Ms. Moss will report to the Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean and the Americas.

Born and raised in Freeport, Grand Bahama, Ms. Moss is a 2007 graduate from the Bishop Michael Eldon. In 2010, she attained  an Associates of Arts Degree inLaw and Criminal Justice from The College of The Bahamas and in 2013, graduated with a LLB from the University of the West Indies, Nassau Campus. While studying at UWI she was a moot court team member in 2012 and 2013 representing The Bahamas at the Philip C Jessup International Moot Court Competition in Washington, DC.

In September 2013 she entered the halls of Eugene Dupuch Law School. She continued her participation in moot competitions as Moot Chairman and was named Second Top Advocate in the region in 2014 at the Stetson International Environmental Moot Competition, Denver Colorado. She was also a part of the team named Top Team in the Americas and the Caribbean at the Frankfurt International Arbitration Moot Court Competition in Frankfurt, Germany in 2015. She completed her Legal Education Certificate from the Eugene Dupuch Law School, Council of Legal Education in June 2015 and was called to The Bahamas Bar in October 2015.

Tamar is currently attached to the Law office of Gouthro and Co, Freeport, Grand Bahama under the pupillage of Attorney William Christopher Gouthro. Tamar is set to her continue her studies at the University of London to obtain a LLM in International Commercial Law with special concentration in International Arbitration.

Tamar has also been actively involved in youth and community affairs. She has been a member of Toastmasters International since September 2008, serving in various capacities including President of LuminariesToastmastersin2011. She is currently an active member of #1425 Freeport Eagles

In 2010, she joined the Bahamas National Youth Council (BNYC) and held the position Assistant Vice President of Legal Affairs later becoming Vice President of Legal Affairs. In 2013 she was elected Executive Vice President the BNYC, a post currently held.

As a Council member, Ms. Moss participated and hosted meetings,discussions and forums as well as formulated policy recommendations on National Issues with Ambassadors and Representatives of the United States of America, The Republic of China, the Cuban Government, Organizationof American States, Caricom Representatives and the public and private sector of the Government of The Bahamas.

In June 2015 Ms. Moss was a member of the Legislative Drafting Committee for the 19th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (CCEM) where she with other young individuals formulated policy recommendations for ministers throughout the Commonwealth.

In November 2015 Tamar, represented The Bahamas as a national delegate at Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Malta and currently sits on the General Assembly of the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC). She is a member of the Policy and Advocacy Committee of the CYC. Tamar is set to attend the 4th Caribbean Youth Leaders' Summit in Belize City, Belize this month.

She is also a member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA)

Ms. Moss is the daughter of Fredrick and Reverend Susan Moss and has one daughter, Danya Elizabeth Lavania Moss
