|
Grand Bahama, The Bahamas -- Grand Bahama’s annual International
Women’s Day celebration, Join Me on the Bridge, now in its sixth year,
announces its annual high school essay and art competition in advance of its
event to be held 8th March 2015, at the Garden of the Groves.
This year’s theme is “INSPIRING WOMEN”.
“In the hopes of inspiring young women and men to celebrate
women’s achievements and explore and reflect on women’s rights and equality,
Join Me on the Bridge holds its annual essay and art competition for Grand
Bahama female and male high school students,” said Lynette McInnes, event
organizer.
Students (Grades 10-13) are asked to either write an original
essay of 500 words or less around the question, “What Woman has Inspired You
and Why?” or to create an original work of art around the theme “Inspiring
Women.” The winners will be included in
the event opening ceremony to be held 8th March 2015, where they will receive
their awards and the winners will read their essays and the winning art will be
displayed.
“New this year, we’ve added a category for male students to the
competition. Men are key allies in women’s advancement and need to be involved
to change the lives, opportunities and prospects for women. What better way to
help support that than by including the young men of Grand Bahama?” McInnes
stated.
