New York, New York – Since its establishment in The Bahamas the Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBS) has been working diligently to stand out in the international ship repair industry.  Their excellence in safety and quality was recently recognised at the Society of Port Marine Engineers Sixty Seventh Annual Dinner and Dance.

Although generally most honourees come from the New York area, GBS has made a big impression in the marine engineering circuit and could not be overlooked. “We are undeniably the largest cruise ship repair facility in the world,” said Reuben Byrd, Acting President and COO of GBS during his acceptance speech of the company’s ‘Excellence Award’.  “We dock more cruise vessels than anywhere else in the world, and since 2009 have taken more of a turn-key approach by continuing to expand our offerings to our customers and teaming up with industry leaders in fields that we don’t normally offer.  We deliver a quality product and have a remarkable safety record and this is what has made us a world class ship repair facility.”

Byrd, Graham Couser, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Project Development and other management staff flew to New York to attend the event to accept the honour on behalf of the Shipyard.  The President of the Society of Marine Port Engineers, Richard Norris, noted that the Grand Bahama Shipyard is well deserving of this distinguished award.  “GBS has been an up and coming entity in the cruise ship industry and they’ve always supported the Society,” he noted.  ”We thought it was a worthy honour to bring them in and honour them.”
The Shipyard is very proud of this accomplishment and their staff’s commitment to meeting work needs and deadlines.  “Our industry is very tight knit and word about your company reverberates easily,” said Couser. “We have been fortunate to produce good work, on time, with good quality and good pricing and we’ve had nothing but good press on the work we do.”

GBS plans to continue to grow their company and are looking to eventually provide services in the LNG arena, offshore sector, seismic ships, general cargo ships and tankers.
