The International Stem Cell Society (STEMSO) Global Conference is underway at the Grand Lucayan Resort in Freeport, Grand Bahama, February 19-22, 2014. The conference, titled "Bridging the Gap: Research to Point of Care,” brings together medical scientists, clinicians, regulatory experts, and investors to discuss topics ranging from progress in the field of research, clinical protocols, and the process of responsibly bringing to market promising therapies to fight chronic disease.

The Honourable Dr. Michael Darville, Minister of Grand Bahama, delivered welcoming remarks on Thursday, February 20th.  "The Government of the Bahamas is fully committed to the construction of a new State of the Art hospital on a 70 acre green field site  in the city of Freeport through a private public partnership model," said Minister Darville. "We intend to improve our present medical infastructure, our current medical services in order to effectively cater to the medical needs of  both locals and medical tourists alike."

Friday  has another full all-day agenda, and the conference culminates on Saturday, February 22 with a panel that will include Bahamas officials including Minister Darville; Dr. Glen S. Beneby, FRCA medical advisor, Bahamas Public Hospitals Authority; and the Honourable Dr. Perry Gomez, Minister of Health.

The complete agenda can be found on the organization’s website at www.stemso.org. Speakers include stem cell researchers, scientists and practitioners from around the world with leading discoveries in the field, and investors in the healthcare space.
