FREEPORT, Grand Bahama Island – Following a successful inaugural event in 2014, TEDxGrandBahama returns on Saturday, August 8th, 2015 at the Coral Reef Rm. in the Canal House at the Pelican Bay Hotel from 10am to 1pm.

One hundred of Grand Bahama’s most impassioned TEDx enthusiasts will come together to dialogue around the theme, Bahamian Development: How Can We Further It? The event will feature an impressive lineup of presenters sharing their ideas on topics ranging from gender to ecosystem conservation and the role of the performing arts in economic development.

“The combination of bright young minds and talent that will take the stage at TEDxGrandBahama 2015 leaves me doubtless that furthering Bahamian development is both inevitable and well underway. I invite the public to join us and engage with the presenters as they remind the audience of why the future of our nation is in very capable hands” said Earle Taylor, TEDxGrandBahama curator and organizing committee member.

Speakers and performers include:

•    Dr. Crystal A. deGregory, Storyteller & Historian
•    Nathaniel Lewis, Filmmaker & Poet
•    Kristian R. Moree, Youth Speaker
•    Nikita Shiel-Rolle, Conservation Biologist

Free event organized by community volunteers:

This independently produced event, operated under a license from TED, is being organized by community volunteers.  It aims to create dialogue as well as give people a forum to share their passions, ideas and experiences. Feedback from last year’s event was tremendous!  A couple audience members summed it up as follows:

“The speakers were so informative and presented very thought provoking ideas. I enjoyed it tremendously.”

“I cannot put into words the exhilarating feeling after listening to such profound young speakers.  The information received was priceless.”

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).
About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or fewer) delivered by today's leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED's annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, and made available, free, on TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.

TED's open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; the annual million-dollar TED Prize, which funds exceptional individuals with a "wish," or idea, to create change in the world; TEDx, which provides licenses to thousands of individuals and groups who host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
