WASHINGTON, D.C. -- When he competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2015, Bahamas National Spelling Bee champion Charles Hamilton’s outgoing personality and witty comments on-stage resulted in him being featured on the “Good Morning America” television show. But even though he spelt both of his on-stage words correctly in the preliminary rounds of the competition, like this year’s Bahamas Spelling Champion Donovan Aaron Butler, who also successfully spelt his two preliminary words, Hamilton failed to advance to the finals because he did not accumulate sufficient points in the written test. Nonetheless, probably because of his popularity as a contestant, a photo of Hamilton at last year’s Bee was prominently featured in the hallway outside the convention center where this year’s spelling competition was held. Oswald T. Brown, Press, Cultural Affairs and Information Manager at the Embassy of The Bahamas in Washington, D.C., who was at the Bee to cover Donovan’s performance, is pictured next to the poster with the photo of Hamilton.
