Diplomatic ties between The Bahamas and Mexico were further strengthened on 19 June, 2015 during the presentation of the Letters of Credence of H.E. Dr. Eugene G.Newry to Mexican President, Enrique Penia Nieto, appointing him Non-resident Ambassador of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to Mexico. The ceremony, which was held at the Presidential Palace, in Mexico City, Mexico, served as a golden opportunity to recognize the fraternal linkages and long standing bilateral friendship which have existed between The Bahamas and Mexico since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on 23 rd January, 1974. Accompanying Ambassador Newry to Mexico was his wife, Mrs. Francoise Torchon-Newry, and Ms. Krissy Hanna, Second Secretary of the Embassy of The Bahamas, in Washington, D.C.

Noting the close proximity with which The Bahamas and Mexico are geographically situated, President Pefia Nieto highlighted the good trading, business and investment relations between The Bahamas and Mexico, spanning its more than four decades of bilateral engagement. He also referred to the Third Mexico-CARICOM Summit, held in Mérida, Yucatån, Mexico, in April, 2014, during which time President Pena Nieto, along with CARICOM Heads of State and Government, including the Rt. Hon. Perry Christie, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, had the opportunity to discuss issues affecting the sub-region. President Pefia Nieto, during the ceremony, further expressed his desire for the advancement of relations between The Bahamas and Mexico given its Caribbean connection and ongoing partnership both within the bilateral and multilateral contexts.

Following President Pena Nieto's comments, H.E. Eugene G. Newry noted the importance of the membership and participation of Mexico and The Bahamas in multilateral organizations, namely the Organization of American States and the United Nations, alluding to the fact that the good relations between both countries transcend its engagement at the bilateral level. Additionally, he commented on the need to develop cooperation between The Bahamas and Mexico, not solely in trade, but in areas such as agriculture, mariculture and aquaculture, tourism and security, with the aim of creating mutually beneficial exchanges in technical expertise and best practice models. H.E. Eugene G. Newry also noted the upcoming Presentation of Credentials of H.E. Martha Jaber Breceda, Non-resident Ambassador designate of Mexico to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, and the official visit of H.E. Vanessa Rubio, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, both scheduled to be held in Nassau, Bahamas in July, 2015.
