NEW YORK - Ambassador Kairat Abdrakhmanov (right), Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, recently paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Elliston Rahming, Ambassador of The Bahamas to the United Nations and Ambassador and Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the Organisation of American States (OAS).

The two envoys discussed a broad range of issues aimed at furthering and deepening cooperation between the two countries. High on the agenda was the impending signing of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries, possible internship opportunities for Bahamians to study renewable energy in Kazakhstan, and the benefits of strengthening both countries' blue and green economies. Kazakhstan, the world's largest land-locked country that borders Russia and China, has a population of 18 million and its economy grew by an average of eight per cent per year over the past decade.
