WASHINGTON, D.C. - H.E. Martin Andjaba, Ambassador of the Republic of Namibia to the United States of America and non-resident High Commissioner of Namibia to The Bahamas, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Eugene G. Newry, Ambassador of The Bahamas to the United States of America, at the Embassy of The Bahamas, 2220 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., on Wednesday, October 8, 2014.
High Commissioner Andjaba, who will be attending the upcoming Diplomatic Week 2014, in Nassau, Bahamas, spoke to mutually beneficial areas of cooperation, in which the Government of Namibia is seeking to engage the Government of The Bahamas, especially education and training in tourism and fisheries. High Commissioner Andjaba during the discussion also alluded to the desire of the Government of Namibia to establish physical presence in The Bahamas through the functions of an Honorary Consul.

Noting the historical significance of Africa to The Bahamas, Ambassador Newry concurred that the aforementioned areas of potential cooperation between the two countries were of vital importance, particularly given their role within the wider context of economic development. Ambassador Newry further stated that The Bahamas was a world leader in the tourism sector, and in commenting on the importance of fisheries to development, noted Angola’s booming fisheries industry, from which he stated, The Bahamas could learn.
The Bahamas and Namibia established formal diplomatic relations on May 15, 2008.
