The Inter-American Development Bank and The Ministry of Finance of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas are hosting a regional Fiscal Policy Workshop for key public and private sector stakeholders and policy-makers on Monday December 4, 2017, and Tuesday December 5, 2017, at The British Colonial Hilton Hotel.
The workshop entitled “Rules-Based Fiscal Policy Frameworks for the Caribbean Region” will bring together Ministers of Finance and Government representatives from The Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, Barbados and Jamaica. Deputy Prime Minister, The Hon. K. Peter Turnquest along with, Therese Turner-Jones, the IDB Manager for the Caribbean Country Department will deliver opening remarks. Minister for Financial Services, Trade and Immigration, The Hon. Brent Symonette will also be in attendance.
The workshop will delve into how to strengthen fiscal discipline to promote credibility, and will distill global lessons that can be useful in the Caribbean context. Lead international and regional experts will speak on fiscal sustainability, budget frameworks, and design and implementation of fiscal rules. Global experts include, Teresa Ter-Minassian former Deputy Director, International Monetary Fund, Fiscal Affairs Department; Alfredo Mier y Teran, former Deputy Chief Economist, Ministry of Finance, Mexico; and George Kopits, Global Fellow, Woodrow Wilson Center for Scholars.
The event is part of the IDB’s commitment to knowledge sharing and capacity building in The Bahamas.
