York, NY - The Bahamas Weekly News Team, Dave Mackey and Robbin
Whachell were on the road recently in New York to cover the Bahamian American Association event, "Bahamians in New York", a mixer organized by Anwar Rolle,
a Bahamian recording artist who will be releasing his new single
"Bahamian in New York" in February 2010, and his album in August of the
same year.
In this video (the second in the series) you will hear
from Bahamas Consul
General,
Carlton Francis Smith who comments on how proud he is of his country, in particular
on how it was so well represented during the recent Miss Universe Pageant; entrepreneur and recording artist
Anwar Rolle, the event organizer continues to explain more about the event and his upcoming single and album release; and
Fred Rosser, music producer, who is co-producing the entire 'Bahamian in New York' album, Rosser programmed and mixed the upcoming two singles, 'Alien in New York' and 'Spring Break Love. Engineer mastering for the entire album will be done by Herb Powers.
More about music producer Fred Rosser: At a very early age Fred Rosser had a deep fascination with anything
that was electronic or musical. He could sit for hours plucking a guitar
string or hitting a few keys on one of the many Casio keyboards that
he collected to create rhythmic melodies. This hobby paired with the
influence of great artist like Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, The Manhattans,
Al Green, Stevie Wonder and so many more, eventually grew into the foundation
that kept him interested in music. He would eventually transform
this natural talent into the unique sound that defines the music he
produces today.
Fred Rosser’s first gold record would come by way of R&B superstars
K-CI and JoJo
of the group Jodeci. Their album entitled
“Love
Always” went on to sell four million copies. Fred has also
been privileged to work with the musically brilliant Eric Roberson,
and the multi talented singer, songwriter, actress Vanessa L. Williams.
Others include the Grammy award winning Bobby Brown, singer and former
MCA records A&R Jeff Redd, singer/actress Tichina Arnold well known
for her roles on TVs’ “Martin” and “Everybody Hates Chris”,
Gran Puba of the rap group Brand Nubian, Charisse Rose ( half of female
R&B duo Changing Faces), U.K. artist Charlotte Kelly of Soul II
Soul, U.K. R&B groups Damage and Truce, and Zelma Davis of C &
C Music Factory.
Fred eventually expanded the scope of his music to include film. This
led to his accreditation for production on the movie
“Booty Call”
starring
Jamie Foxx,
Tommy Davidson, Vivica A. Fox, and Tamala Jones. His musical contribution
to “Booty Call” earned him a platinum record. He would then go on
to work with famed director Darnell Martin (director of “Cadillac
Records” starring Beyonce’ Knowles.) to score the movie
“Prison
Song” starring Q-tip, Fat Joe and multi Grammy award winner Mary
J Blige.
The culmination of these experiences have nurtured the talents and developed
the skills that make Fred Rosser’s sought after sound so unique. Some
would say that this is only the beginning.
The
BAAI event at the Astoria World Manor in Queens was well attended and
those there were able to give a 'shout out' to family back in The
Bahamas by way of The Bahamas Weekly video coverage. Many young Bahamian cadets from SUNY Maritime College were at the event to represent and support the scholarship recipient, Keia Armbrister, also a student at the school.
Entertainment for the evening was provided by the band, 2 the Limit and by DJ DC from Dragons at Atlantis. Also in attendance was Miss Teen Bahamas 2008.
President of BAAI, Mr. William
Dames was on
hand to provide remarks.
