Sunday August 9th 2009 is a day that Grand Bahama Island, The Bahamas and the Universe will always remember. It was certainly one of the most exciting days of news coverage for The Bahamas Weekly News Team as we traveled with the Miss Universe 2009 entourage during their fun filled day of excitement in Freeport. We are pleased to present for your enjoyment this short interview with Miss Universe 2008, the amazingly beautiful and gracious; Dayana Mendoza (Venezuela). When asked to describe her year of reign as Miss Universe, Miss Mendoza commented, "In short - Crazy, FUN!".  This interview is just a foretaste of many to come.

From their musical arrival at the Grand Bahama International Airport to breakfast at Grand Bahama Yacht Club, a tour of Garden of The Groves, rehearsals under the tent on The Great Lawn at Radisson at Our Lucaya to the sultry Miss Universe Swimsuit competition 2009.

The Bahamas Weekly had the opportunity to conduct various interviews with some of the contestants and we were on hand for exclusive media only photo opts and video shoots of these gorgeous women; all of which we will be producing for your enjoyment to view both here on thebahamasweekly.com and on GBI Tourism TV (GbiTtv - Grand Bahama Island's channel 56).

The Miss Universe pageant continues in Nassau with the final day, August 23rd at Atlantis. View a quick overview of their schedule. Bahamians are encouraged to purchase tickets and attend all the the events. The swimsuit event on Grand Bahama Island was a sellout.
