Nassau, Bahamas -- Al Jazeera America was in The Bahamas (New Providence) for 4 days starting on August 4, 2015 to interview and film for a news piece that they are preparing on Chinese investment in The Bahamas and Caribbean. It will be aired in late August or September. While here, correspondent, Melissa Chan interviewed government officials, Baha Mar workers, the CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, businesspersons and ordinary Bahamians.  They also filmed the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium that was a gift from the Chinese Government, Baha Mar and other places in Nassau, including the ground breaking of China Construction America’s (CCA) new project, The Pointe hotel and development.

The Nassau Guardian’s photographer, Torrell Glinton captured Melissa Chan as she tried to get a comment from Prime Minister Perry Christie. Their presence in The Bahamas created a bit of awe from local reporters who commented that Al Jazeera USA are one of the first international news media organizations to locally cover the dispute regarding Baha Mar. The Bahamas Weekly’s contributor, Azaleta Ishmael-Newry, also a PR consultant and agent assisted Al Jazeera USA as well as Bahamas Information Services and the Ministry of Tourism.

“I was happy to assist Al Jazeera USA,” said Ishmael-Newry. “Working with the producer Simone Perez from Washington and their reporter Melissa Chan and her cameraman Michael Anderson from San Francisco was a positive experience. While we certainly have some challenges right now with our economy, and many unanswered questions regarding Baha Mar, I felt that it was important to support foreign media and also share my country’s positive aspects. It was an honour to work with this team and they were amazed at my connections and quick response.”
