Ambassador Andrew Young to Speak at Global Leadership Forum in Grand Bahama

Nassau, Bahamas - Civil rights activist, diplomat and educator ambassador Andrew Young Jr will serve as the primary speaker at the forth coming 2014 Global Leadership Forum scheduled to be held November 10th to 13th in Freeport, Grand Bahama.This highly anticipated international leadership summit will bring together leaders at every level for four days on intense leadership training for senior leadership, management and emerging leaders and will cover a number of important topics including “Globalization and the Clash of Natural Culture”, “The Challenge of Leading in Globalization”, “The Challenge of Morality in a Globalized World” and “Globalization and International Socialization”.

Ambassador Young Jr was born on March 12, 1932 in New Orleans Louisiana and became active in the Civil Rights Movement working alongside the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He also became active in politics and served as a member of the United States Congress, mayor of Atlanta, Ga and was the first African American to be appointed ambassador to the United Nations. Ambassador Young has received many awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Spingarn Medal. He is also the author of three (3) books including “A Way Out of No Way” (1994) and “An Easy Burden: The Civil Rights Movement and the Transformation of America (1996)”.  Several universities have also named buildings and programs in his name including Morehouse College which named the Andrew Young Center for Global Leadership in his honor and Georgia State University has also named the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies in his honor as well. Ambassador Young continues to fight for equality and economic justice through his consultancy firm Good Works International, which was established to support development initiatives especially in Africa and the Caribbean. During the 2014 Global Leadership Forum Ambassador Young will speak on the topics “The Price of Leadership” and “Leading Change in a Globalized World”.

The second featured speaker for this year’s forum will be The Hon. Sharon Ffolkes Abrahams, Attorney at Law, a lecturer in law and a Member of Parliament in Jamaica for the constituency of West Central St.James.  Mrs. Abrahams currently serves as the Minister of State for Industry, Investment and Commerce in the Jamaican Government.  She attended the Immaculate Conception High School for girls and is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill and the Osgoode Hall, Law School, York University where she received her Master’s Degree in Administrative Law in 2003. She was called to the Jamaican Bar in 1981 and the Ontario Barr in 1985. As a trained human rights specialist, Mrs. Fflokes Abrahams has successfully practiced in the Ontario courts and tribunals in the areas of immigration, human rights and criminal law and she has also served as counsel for the Ontario Human Rights Commission.  Mrs. Fflokes Abrahams has served as president of the Law Guild of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, president of the Rojas Delos Davis Law Guild in Canada and is the immediate past president of the Jamaican Diaspora Foundation of Canada where she was able to represent the interest of Jamaica. She has been recognized for her accomplishments with an award for legal achievement in 2004 and a community and business development award in 2012 both from the York Region, Ontario Canada.  She is married to Peter Abrahams who is also an attorney and the couple have three children. During the 2014 Global Leadership Forum Mrs. Ffolkes Abrahams will speak on the topics “Women in Politics in a Globalized World” and “Gender Equality in the Global Village”.

The 2014 Global Leadership Forum will be held at the Grand Lucayan Resort Bahamas in Freeport, Grand Bahama from November 10th -13th under the theme “Leading Change in a Globalized World Through Principled Innovative Leadership”. The event is open to all political and national leaders, senior leaders, emerging leaders, senior executives, religious leaders, permanent secretaries, human resource managers, executive managers, entrepreneurs and community leaders.
