BTC Explains Service Disruption Saturday March 22nd.

Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) Update on Service Disruption: 

NASSAU, Bahamas (March 22nd, 2014) - At about 1:30 a.m., BTC began to witness disruptions across all the network platforms - Land line, Internet and Mobile – due to technical failures.Teams were immediately deployed to try and determine the cause and to begin repairs and restoration. Technicians were able to restore a significant amount of Land line and Internet connectivity by early morning. However, Mobile presented more serious challenges.

Updates were released throughout the day as work progressed.

BTC mobilized its full technical team to resolve the issue, and was able to call on dozens of resources from its partner venders to assist in the resolution.

By early afternoon, services had been restored to BTC’s postpaid customer base.

By 4:30 pm, services began to return to the prepaid customers. BTC anticipates that full restoration would be complete before 8:00 pm.

The company will provide some measure of compensation for the inconvenience and will announce details of same in the coming days.

5:30 p.m. Saturday March 22nd.Prepaid Mobile Services are presently being brought back online. 

BTC anticipates full prepaid mobile restoration by 8 pm.Postpaid mobile services are fully operational.

Customers may have to restart their mobile devices to connect to the network.Mobile customers may face congestion in some areas of the country as the network comes online fully.

BTC will provide some measure of compensation for affected customers.  Details for same will be released in the coming days.  Internet services and Landline services are functional throughout most the islands.  The inter-island connectivity for the following islands – which was inoperable – will be coming back fully within the next hour: Cat Island, Exuma, Abaco, Rum Cay, San Salvador, Berry Islands and Bimini.Mayaguana, Crooked Island, Acklins & Long Cay can expect full landline restoration by 7 pm.
