Earlier this year, Bahamian youth ambassador Ashleigh Rolle of Grand Bahama Island was named among three from The Bahamas chosen by the US Embassy Nassau as being among the First Class of Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) which is supported by President Barack Obama.  Ashleigh was chosen among a select few of the YLAI fellows to visit Peru to meet with Obama and other youth leaders to network and share experiences in the program.

"To have the opportunity be in the same room as President Obama, let alone be able to engage with him in the final days of an historic presidency is something many people can only dream of! I'm honestly humbled by the honour of being chosen for some thing like this."

Miss Rolle has just returned from a five-week program in the USA aimed to strengthen their leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurial skills and provide networking opportunities with U.S. entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors; diaspora communities; and among each other to increase connectivity throughout the hemisphere.

Miss Rolle wrote the following on her Facebook page today: "I'm back home. But I leave again on Thursday for Peru with a select few YLAI fellows to meet with President Obama who will also be in town for the APEC Summit. I realize that this opportunity is not mine alone but when I stand to speak I can possibly represent the voice of thousands of young Bahamians. It is for this reason that I have decided to crowd source my questions. If you could ask President Obama one thing, what would it be?"

Obama launched YLAI last year to expand opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs and civil society innovators in Latin America and the Caribbean.  The inaugural YLAI class brings 250 promising young business and social entrepreneurs from across Latin America to invest in and accelerate the work of young leaders who are making their communities and countries more prosperous and secure.

YLAI, one of four programs within the Young Leaders Initiatives, is a part of President Obama’s commitment to empower young people around the world and ensure they have the tools, skills, and networks to tackle our shared global challenges.

Miss Rolle has been a 'One Young World' Ambassador of The Bahamas since 2011 and can be reached at ashseanrolle@gmail.com

UPDATE: The Bahamas Weekly has received word that Louby Georges, also of The Bahamas, will also be attending. Congrats Louby!
