BIMINI, Bahamas - Just 8 days shy of Christmas Day, BTC has delivered on its promise, to introduce television services to Bimini. On hand in Bimini for the announcement was BTC CEO Leon Williams, BTC Deputy Chairman Bradley Roberts and Jack Thompson, Senior Under Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister.

Earlier this year, BTC announced that it would actively pursue the television market, and today the company was proud to announce that 100 Bimini residents are now connected to television services.

CEO Leon Williams said, “Today is truly a ‘blue letter’ day in the history of BTC. It heralds a new era for the company. We are truly pleased to begin offering television in underserved islands like Bimini. Today over 100 customers are connected, and are watching over 100 channels, including channels in HD.”

BTC is now trialling its television services in Bimini. Residents will test the full product offering, free of charge for 90 days. In March 2015, BTC will commercially launch its television services in Bimini.

BTC plans to move to Inagua and Long Island early next year, to begin testing its television services in those islands. The Company is aggressively pursuing a December 2015 deadline, to complete the rollout of television to all Family Islands. Presently there is no major television service provider in many Family Islands.

BTC TV offers a channel line-up of local, international and regional content. The service also provides over 130 channels with 16 in high definition. BTC TV will also offer video on demand, digital music channels, DVR, parental controls, and its own BTC channel.

Just last month, BTC unveiled its ‘Upgrade Bahamas’ initiative. Some $65m will be invested in managing and enhancing BTC’s landline, broadband, mobile and now television product. Upgrade Bahamas has made significant strides over the last six weeks. To date, ten new mobile towers have been erected in New Providence, and sixty seven mobile towers in the country will offer LTE coverage. Our broadband speeds have increased, and customers are enjoying high speeds at lower prices.

BTC has also spent millions improving and completely transforming the customer experience. Customers across the country now walk into ultra-chic facilities, allowing them to touch, feel and experience products and services before purchase. Just last month, the Bimini store was remodelled, and today, customers are enjoying the upgraded experience. The retail store, which was previously a cashier and bill-pay station, now offers a modern retail experience with a full suite of interactive mobile devices and customer assistance options.

In 2005, BTC also made history in Bimini, with its $58.9m investment in the Bahamas Domestic Submarine Network, which connects fourteen islands through a self- healing ring topology. Through BDSNi, BTC has been able to deliver broadband and mobile services throughout the country.

BTC is the leading telecommunications company in the country, providing modern landline, internet, and mobile services to every single island in the country.
