The Bahamas has a long history of religion.  It’s founding church, The Church of England, better known as the Anglican Church, and its multiple Christian denominations gives this nation reason to boast of its Christian heritage, and Christian practices has maintained the way of life that the world envied.  Vacationers world-wide seek these known to be peaceful shores, for a paradise experience including fun, safety, and cleanliness.

Proud Bahamians boasted for many years of the status of a “Christian Nation.”

Not so long ago we were a privileged people who had the freedom to leave doors unlocked, windows slept open to enjoy the balmy breezes, and church doors were left wide open, for those who had spiritual needs anytime of the day.  We can now only think back of times when adults were respected by young passer bys, when the community raised a child, when families regarded the Lord’s Day holy, and when everyone was required to spend time weekly in the house of God.  As a nation we were taught to honor God and his commandments.

“We have strayed far from that place of God-consciousness,” stated the President of the Bahamas Christian Council, Rev. Patrick Paul, “and the results are the high rate of every kind of crime: domestic violence, school violence, murders, marital disorder, teen prostitution, child abuse, and more,” he continued.

The concern for the welfare and future of our nation has caused government leaders and Christian leaders to join forces to proclaim a National Day of Fasting and Prayer.  “Prayer still changes things,” stated the President of BCC.  “The sanctioning and proclamation of this very important day by our Prime Minister, The Honourable Hubert A. Ingraham, speaks volumes in the spirit, and throughout our country; that we give God the authority to help us bring order, peace, and prosperity back to this nation,” he continued.  The National Day of Prayer and Fasting is slated for Wednesday February, 10, 2010, from 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

The Prime Minister of the Bahamas has signed a proclamation declaring a National Day of Prayer & Fasting for the Nation.
