Defence Headquarters, (RBDF): Commodore Raymond King and several members of the RBDF’s 40th Anniversary Committee, made good on their promise on Wednesday morning to donate part proceeds of their fund raiser to the Bahamas Association for the Physically Disabled (BAPD).
In a brief ceremony at the BAPD Headquarters on Dolphin Drive, New Providence, Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King, along with Deputy Commander Defence Force, Captain Shonedel Pinder who served as the 40th Anniversary Committee Chair, Commander Floyd Moxey, Event Coordinator and Leading Seaman Abrian Rankine, Silent Art Auction Curator, met with BAPD Patron, Mrs. Charlotte Albury; Director, Ms. Linda Smith, and members of the BAPD Executive Board, Teachers, Staff and several students to officially present the check to them.
In celebration of its 40th Anniversary of official existence this year, The Royal Bahamas Defence Force hosted a Silent Art Exhibition and Cocktail Reception, on March 13, 2020, just ahead of the Covid-19 Emergency Orders that led to a country wide shut down for the last several months.
The Silent Art auction showcased the talent of the men and women in uniformed branches around the country, as well as interested civilian personnel and students of BAPD who were excited that part proceeds of the sale of art pieces would be earmarked to their activities. The RBDF has partnered with BAPD in the past with painting and electrical work as well as with reading to the children and assisting with the outfitting of their sensory room.
Commodore King and his team were inspired by the visit and tour of the facility and extent of the work undertaken by the school to help children with physical disabilities better their quality of life. He also offered continued support to the agency and asserted that “partnerships like what we have created with the BAPD and the RBDF are necessary and I believe a reflection of any civilized society lies in how we treat the most vulnerable of our population.”
