BAHAMAS – Aligned to its digital expansion strategy, Western Union, a leader in cross-border, cross-currency money movement, today announced it has launched the Western Union® mobile app in the Bahamas, bringing a new level of convenience to consumers who prefer to use cash to fund money transfers.

The app allows Western Union customers to start their money transfer in the app at their convenience, and then quickly complete the transaction in-store, paying with cash. The app keeps a record of the transaction, making it faster to send money in the future. It also allows users to check the status of a transaction and to find a nearby Western Union Agent location.

“We know our customers live in both the physical and digital world,” said Rodrigo Garcia Estebarena, Western Union Vice President for Mexico, Caribbean and Central America. “The cash-pay mobile app option bridges the two, bringing a world of convenience to consumers and Western Union retail Agents in the Bahamas.”

Western Union’s digital footprint across 41 countries offers a combination of web and mobile app, enabling consumers to send money digitally to more than 200 countries and territories.

“We are pleased to continue our expansion in the Bahamas, an important market for Western Union in the Caribbean,” said Andre Largie, Western Union Country Head for the Caribbean region. “Our focus on customer-driven innovation means we are seeking to amplify customer choice for sending and receiving money, aligning with the lifestyle of consumers.”

In alliance with its Agents SunCash, MoneyMaxx and GraceKennedy Money Services, Western Union offers domestic and international money transfers in the Bahamas from more than 25 Agent locations throughout the country. From the Western Union retail network, consumers in the Bahamas can also send money transfers directly into billions of bank accounts in more than 50 countries, including the Philippines, the United States, Nigeria, China and Mexico.

Western Union is offering introductory pricing of USD $5 transfer fee* to send up to USD $500 to customers using the cash-pay option within Western Union’s mobile app to send money to virtually anywhere in the world.
