Nassau,
BAHAMAS - (Dec. 2, 2015) Following in his late father’s footsteps of motivating
Bahamians and citizens of the world to strive for excellence, Myles
Munroe Jr.
recently told high school and College of The Bahamas students that
“greatness is in each and every one” of them.
Mr.
Munroe, the only son of the late Dr. Myles and Ruth Ann Munroe, was the
featured speaker at The College of The Bahamas’ Inaugural Myles Munroe
Leadership
Lecture recently held in the Performing Arts Centre, Oakes Field
campus. Students, faculty and staff eagerly listened to what words of
wisdom Mr. Munroe had to impart.
“I
want you to know that inside of you there is a resolution to a problem;
that is to serve your generation. I want you to remember that, and
don’t think
that you are inadequate or incapable of being great because greatness
is in each and every one of us. Each of us has a specific gift that
allows us to be great in our own area of gifting, in our own area of
leadership,” said Mr. Munroe.
Remembering
words of wisdom from his father, Mr. Munroe said that his father always
said that greatness does not depend on location, but it’s a mentality.
“It
doesn’t matter where you [were] born. My father was born in Bain
Town…but an individual like him grew up in the inner-city, in the lower
income community
and he grew to be one of the most known Bahamians in the world. That
just shows that it doesn’t matter where you start, but it matters where
you want to finish, where you see yourself finishing and working towards
that goal. It doesn’t matter where you start
or where your location begins your mentality gets you to where you want
to be in life,” he said.

Mr.
Munroe obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in International
Business at his father’s alma mater Oral Roberts University, where he
graduated with
honors and was awarded the All American Scholastic Award for making the
National Dean’s List. He continued to further his studies at Fairleigh
Dickinson University obtaining his MBA in entrepreneurial studies, again
graduating with honours.
Mr.
Munroe told The College community that he is a firm believer that
success is attainable, but it takes a lot of work to achieve it.
“Folks,
especially in my generation compared to my father’s generation, we have
become very lazy in our work ethic. We almost expect things to happen
for us as opposed to working hard for it. That was a lesson my dad had
to teach me when I first moved home to The Bahamas. I found myself just
being too comfortable were I was at and then complaining when certain
things just wasn’t falling into place. My dad
encouraged me you have to work harder, you have to study more, when
others are sleeping you need to be up doing what it is you want to do.
Studying what you need to study, learning everything that you need to
learn to be successful. Success is a simple thing
to attain, but it’s going to take a lot of work, a lot of effort,” he
said.
President
of The College of The Bahamas Dr. Rodney Smith said that Dr. Munroe was
an effective and magnetic leader and he used these qualities to help
change the world.
“We
at The College admire his legacy and in it, we see bountiful
inspiration for ourselves and for our students. There are infinite
lessons that can
be learned from the way Dr. Munroe lived his life, and the many lessons
he imparted to his congregation and the global community. Our students
are encouraged to read his books and apply the many principles he
espoused to their lives,” said Dr. Smith.
Books written by the late Dr. Myles Munroe were donated to The College’s library.
