Campari sweepstake winner Michael Cooper (left) accepts his prize from Commonwealth Brewery Limited Brand Representative, Alliyah Lewis after he was announced the winner of the Campari enter to win competition last month. Mr. Cooper will travel to Trinidad this month for a first-time Carnival experience.

Nassau Bahamas - CAMPARI recently announced that New Providence resident Michael Cooper was named the lucky winner of the brand’s “Enter to win a trip to Trinidad Carnival” sweepstake.

The promotion took place during the months of November and December of last year and participants got the chance to enter by simply purchasing a bottle of Campari.

“Campari wanted to give back to its supporters and we thought a great way would’ve been to give them the best experience by flying them out to Trinidad to experience one of the biggest Carnival events in the world,” said Alliyah Lewis, Brand Representative at Commonwealth Brewery Ltd.

The winner of the promotional sweepstake will not only get a chance to witness Trinidad Carnival this year, but they will also be able to participate in the carnival parade and all festivities on February 12th and 13th.

Mr. Cooper explained how he entered the sweepstake up to the moment he found out that he had won the grand prize.

“I went to the store to get something particular for my wife and while I was there, someone told me about a promotion going on where you could win a trip to Trinidad; I said ‘that’s a dream because I always wanted to go to Trinidad’ but I doubted that I would actually win.

“I still bought a bottle of Campari and the next week I went back and bought three more bottles,” Mr. Copper said.

He noted that he immediately followed the instructions listed on the sweepstake card that came with the Campari bottle and several weeks later he received a call from Jamaica informing him that he had won the prize.

“I got a call from a foreign number. I almost didn’t answer it but when I did, I heard a voice with a different accent that said ‘sir, did you play a game for the Campari win a trip?’ I said ‘yeah’ and he said your name is in the top ten to win a prize.

“At that point I didn’t know what he was talking about because I had already forgotten that I participated in the game, but I received another call the next day to telling me that I had actually won. I said ‘man, this is crazy, this is a dream!’”

Mr. Cooper, who is a Campari fan, said he has been wanting to go to Trinidad Carnival for the past seven years and he is elated that he finally has a chance to go and experience the culture. He said he is also excited to be able to take his wife with him.
