Venezuelan Navy Ship ‘Simon Bolivar’ Visits Nassau

New Providence, Bahamas - The ‘Simon Bolivar,’ of the Bolivarian Navy of Venezuela arrived in Nassau on Saturday, August 22, and was officially welcomed by the Ministry of National Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The military training vessel, berthed at Nassau Harbour, carries a crew of 174 with 75 of them cadets.

The vessel is traveling through the Caribbean on its 26th Foreign Training Cruise. At this time it also commemorates the 10th Anniversary of Petrocaribe’s regional Energy Cooperation Agreement and through its travels aims to promote friendly relations with its Caribbean neighbours.

The Simon Bolivar sailed into Nassau from Honduras, and will depart at dawn on Wednesday for Santiago de Cuba.

While in Nassau, the crew, on Sunday, attended church at Saints Francis and Joseph Catholic Church; on Monday had a City Tour of Nassau; and on Tuesday scheduled in a basketball game with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
