U.S. Embassy Nassau is pleased to announce that Ms. Nathalee Martinborough, Deputy News Director of the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas, ZNS Northern Service has been selected to participate in the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The program runs October 27-November 17, 2018 in the United States.

A core policy of U.S. foreign policy is to encourage a free and responsible press that allows a well-informed citizenry to hold governments and institutions accountable.  The program will examine the history, structure and function of broadcasting in the United States and the challenges and opportunities posed by social media.

Prior to her departure, Ms. Martinborough met with the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs team led by Public Affairs Officer Penny Rechkemmer to discuss the program.  The veteran broadcast journalist will join more than twenty journalists and editors from diverse countries including Hong Kong, Poland, Nigeria, New Zealand, Egypt, Russia and Ghana. During the IVLP exchange she will visit Washington, DC; Columbia, South Carolina; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Sacramento, California.

The International Visitor Leadership Program is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. Each year nearly 5,000 International Visitors come to the U.S. on the IVLP. More than 200,000 International Visitors have engaged with Americans through the IVLP, including more than 500 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government. Staff from U.S. Embassies and Consulates around the world nominate participants.
