Nassau, Bahamas - The Bahamas Association of Shore Experiences (BASE) is seeking strong leadership and is anticipating several individuals would be nominated in its upcoming August 2021 elections.

BASE acts as a lobbying body to ensure inclusion in government benefits, policy-setting and input into legislative amendments of shore experiences.

General elections will be held to establish a board of directors that will include a chairman, deputy chairman, secretary, treasurer and three directors.

In order to apply for a leadership position, the person must be a member of BASE. Self-nominations are accepted. The nominees would also need three tourism professionals to endorse the nomination.

Online nominations will be closed on August 19.

Membership is also opened for individuals who provide tourism-based customer services.

This includes entrepreneurs and vendors of Air BNBs, members of organizations such as the Bahamas Excursions Operators Association, the Bahamas Diving Association, Bahamas Bridal Association, Association of Bahamas Marinas, tour operators, hair braiders, boutique resorts, taxi and surrey drivers, jet ski operators and more.

To join BASE, there is a one-time membership fee of $200 and annual dues of $100 thereafter. Applications and payments must be made on or before August 19th, 2021 to have voting rights in the upcoming 2021 Board Member Elections - One Member, One Vote (OMOV).

An annual general membership meeting was held on July 19 via Zoom to discuss the benefits of BASE.

Those benefits include discounted services from Tourism Development Corporation (TDC); the World Travel Tourism Council (WTTC) Safe Travel Stamp inspection and
decal; access to industry research; business development support from TDC; and group rates for liability insurance through the Bahamas Tours Alliance (BTA).

The group liability insurance covers up to $2 million and is a requirement of most international cruise lines.

Interested persons for BASE are asked to visit the website at www.tdcbahamas.com or contact the TDC at 603-4850.
