More than 35,000 acres of coral reef in the Bahamas have been protected as a result of donations made during the opening week of Disney's OCEANS movie in April this year. That translates to an area that is two-and-a-half times as large as Manhattan, and big enough to house 412 Disneylands.

Disney announced that as part of its campaign to protect even greater areas of Bahamian coral, a portion of the proceeds from the first week of OCEANS DVD and Blu-ray sales would go to the Nature Conservancy's Bahamas marine protection project.

As part of the See OCEANS, Save Oceans campaign associated with the movie, 17,843 Americans pledged to reduce their use of plastic bags. With the average American using 500 plastic bags per year, that could result in a reduction of 8.9 million plastic bags annually in the U.S.
