A winning start for Bahamas Junior Fed and Davis Cup Teams

The Bahamas was victorious today as the Junior Fed and Junior Davis Cup teams defeated Honduras and Jamaica. The 3-member Jr. Fed Cup Team comprising of Sydney Clarke, Sierra Donaldson, and Afrika Smith and coached by Mr. Bradley Bain was successful with a win over Honduras . The girls came into the competition ranked fifth overall. Sierra Donaldson won over Alessa Matuty 6-4 1-6 5-7. The match which lasted for 3 hours was very competitive but Sierra came out the victor. Sydney Clarke also played three sets against Ana Rodriguez.  She played some great tennis and defeated Rodriguez in the third set the results were0-6 6-1 2-6 . The doubles will be played tomorrow by Afrika Smith and Sierra Donaldson.

The boys were also successful and the matchup was decided by a doubles victory by The Bahamas duo of Armbrister and Bowe. The 3-member Jr. Davis Cup Team consists of Donte Armbrister, Kofi Bowe and Yorgos Karageorgiou. The Boys are coached by Mr. Ceron Rolle. Kofi Bowe who played well was defeated by Myles Harrison 2-6 0-6. In the second matchup Donte Armbrister played well and defeated John Azar in two sets 6-3 6-2.With the score1-1 between Bahamas and Jamaica the doubles would decide the winner between the two countries. This proved to bean exciting doubles match where Armbrister and Bowegive it their best efforts and won out over Azar and Harrison 7-6(3) 6-3. Coach Ceron who marshals the boys is quoted as saying “The boys played really well and came back from 5-2 down in the first. So they know in order to be called warriors they have to face combat! We play a tougher team in the next match(Aruba) they are older and also have a lot of experience so we are just going in with the mindset to give it our best .” On Tuesday the Boys play Aruba who is seeded second in the Competition.
