Nassau, Bahamas - D'Arcy Rahming and his wife Benita and two of their children Cynthia and D'Arcy Jr, were featured on BBC World News on Wednesday April 23rd. They were selected for their contributions in nation building through the use of sport.  The Rahmings have led the way in developing the sport of judo from community centers to elite level athletes. They will attend the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow Scotland. The father and children are all black belts in the sport of Judo.

Mark Beaumont is host of the BBC news segment on the Queen's Baton Relay which travels from country to country in the Commonwealth. The show finds unique stories and highlighted the Rahmings because of their community work and their development of a Commonwealth Game sport to international standards. "BBC wanted to know why we are in the community centers and what kind of social changes we are trying to bring about through sports." says Rahming, who is President of the Bahamas Judo Federation and the Olympic Treasurer.

"I explained to them that we are a country that is only 40 years old. We need to bring up everybody's level so that we can compete on an international scale in all things. Sports is a great starting point because it has international standards that can be achieved through hard work and training. And these skills are directly transferable to every job imaginable," continued Rahming.

Cynthia is the star elite athlete of the Bahamas Judo Federation, a national and international champion. "It was interesting to work with the BBC news crew and educate them about our country. I got the impression that they were initially not expecting that we would have a development plan that goes from recreational programs all the way to international medalists."

BBC News will show a four minute segment which will be seen by millions of persons in over 200 countries and territories as well as on airports and cruise ships. Additionally, the segment will be posted on BBC websites and social media. This will result in millions of dollars of positive publicity for the Bahamas. Persons interested in joining or supporting Bahamas Judo should contact 242-364-6773
