Top 30 Finish Puts Korath Wright in Position for Olympics --

One week after the one-year countdown to the 2010 Olympics, Bahamian snowboarder Korath Wright has moved one step closer to realizing his dream of becoming the first representative of his country to compete in the Winter Games.

“I'm really excited, the qualification process has consumed my focus and now that I’ve met the requirements for the 2010 Games in Vancouver, I can focus all my energy on training and preparation for maintaining that position through to next January, and then competing in the Winter Olympics,” said Wright.

The International Ski Federation has set minimum requirements for athletes to compete in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. As part of those standards, an athlete needs to have a Top 30 finish in the season leading up to the Games, as well as maintain at least 100 FIS points. By finishing in 28th spot at the LG FIS Snowboard World Cup this past weekend at Stoneham in Quebec, Wright has now met those requirements, and needs to maintain them in order to compete in the Games next February.

“It’s a dream come true to represent the country I was born in as their first Winter Olympian,” continued Wright. “This has been a very challenging year for me, especially after coming off a season where I made finals in all but one World Cup event, but now I feel like I’m getting back into the right groove, and look forward to the next contest in Spain next month.”

In celebration of the one-year countdown to the Olympics, and the first potential Winter Olympian from the Bahamas, two t-shirts have been designed.
