Saas Fee, Switzerland – Usually at this time of year, even the Glacier village of Saas Fee, Switzerland isn't sure that there will be snow. But for Hallowe'en this year, it looks like the Allalin Glacier decided it would dress up as Old Man Winter, and provide total white-out conditions for the second FIS World Cup contest of the season.

An unexpected snowfall of close to six feet descended upon the Glacier over the past two days, canceling Wednesday's training, and the originally scheduled Qualification rounds on Thursday, leaving it up to a "One and Done" format for today's final.

Bahamian snowboarder Korath Wright was in the same boat as the other top snowboarders in the World -- poor visibility, high winds, and no speed. But despite the less than favourable conditions, the rider gave it his best shot.

"It was totally crazy up there today," said Wright. "You really couldn't see five feet in front of you because of the blowing snow, but I gave it a shot. I was pretty far down the start list so when I dropped in there was a ton of snow in the pipe, and I just couldn't get any speed. Now it's time to jump into a nice hot shower and think about soaking up the sun in Nassau."

Last week, Wright competed in a European Cup in Saas Fee, where conditions were much better, and he finished an impressive 10th out of a field of more than 110 riders.

"Last week's contest felt really good," continued Wright. "There were a lot of top riders in town as a warm up for the World Cup, and I threw down a couple of strong runs to go straight to finals and finish Top 10."

Wright, who has spent the past year finalizing all of the paperwork and criteria required to enable him to ride for his home country of The Bahamas, was competing in his second contest in the FIS Snowboard Halfpipe World Cup as a representative of the Island
Nation.

Wright has another exciting event taking place this coming weekend as well, but this time he'll trade in his Bahamian flag-emblazoned snowboard for a tuxedo. Wright has been asked by The Bahamas Tourist office in Germany to join them at the annual "Sport-Presse-Ball" in Frankfurt. In addition to helping promote The Bahamas through its sponsorship of the event, Wright will be interviewed on stage in front of more than 3,000 of Germany's
top athletes, politicians and honoured guests.

Korath's next contest is scheduled to be at the Burton Canadian Open, in Calgary, Alberta from December 1st to 7th.

It was just over two years ago in Whistler, when all of this began for Wright. After taking third place in his first-ever World Cup, he was approached by the Bahamas High Commission, enquiringif he would ride for his home country. This contact has not only provided Wright with an opportunity in snowboarding, but has also established a new connection with his home country and family.
