Freeport, Bahamas - On Saturday, 11th December, the Grand Bahama Girls’ league took place despite the rain prior to time of play and the sun did come out. Because some of the teams were shorthanded due to the weather, the girls joined forces and played scrimmage games instead of league games.

The Caribbean Electric Mini Stars (4-6 yr olds) had their last day of soccer until January 8t, 2011. They had their Christmas celebration a week earlier than the rest of the league. Keeping the mood of the season, the girls played games such as Elf, Elf, Santa and What Time is it Santa Claus? At the end of the day, the parents and coaches played a game and the Mini Stars beat the adults by the score of  9-2.

After the game, Michelle Russell (Faith’s mom) treated the adults and soccer players to cupcakes. Soccer Santa gave books to all the girls and they all went home with candy bags.

Caribbean Electric Mini Stars do not have soccer this week and will resume on Jan 8th, 2011.

The players from the Curly Tail, Gecko and Iguana Division are asked to please be in attendance this week as it is our last week before the Christmas holiday. The girls will take on the coaches in our annual Christmas game. The session will end with teams presenting their coach with a little Christmas gift donated by the league and coaches distributing Christmas candy to their players.

After Saturday, December 18th, the league will close for the holidays and resume on January 8th, 2011. Due to popular demand, the soccer season will extend until February 19th, 2011.

Parents are asked to make sure that their daughters fulfill their commitment to their team and attend on a regular basis.

The coaches and referees would like to wish the soccer players, parents, sponsors and fans a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and healthy new year. Thank you for making our tenth year so successful.

The league would also like to extend best wishes to Nikita Barbes who is getting married on Saturday, 18th December. Nikita is a former star player in the league who went to school on an academic and soccer scholarship and is presently living and working in Missouri. We are proud of you Nikita. You are a great role model for our girls!

No League games were played this past Saturday and results remain the same as of the last report.

Notice on inclement weather: It is not easy to gauge when the weather could become inclement. The league still operates during cold weather, so please bundle up your children with extra layers, and sweatpants are acceptable. If the league is ever to cancel play on Saturday due to weather it will be posted  to the Grand Bahama Girls Soccer League Facebook page or a special notice will appear on the home page of TheBahamasWeekly.com. If no notice is placed by 1:30pm, please just turn up for play as usual, even if it may be raining in your area.
