Nassau, Bahamas - Some 100 International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) World Relays 2015 volunteers gathered recently for a "milestone" event in the build-up to the international event– their first orientation and training event.

The sessions held at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium, on Saturday February 28th 2015 was attended by some 144 volunteers from across New Providence.

IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2015, Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Director of Volunteers, Tarahan Mackey, said the training marked a significant milestone in the preparation for the upcoming event.

“Today marks a significant milestone in our preparation for the upcoming event,” Mackey said. “The event simply cannot happen without them. I am positive that the re-engagement training today would reignite the spirit of volunteerism and teamwork within us, needed to revolutionize the work we commit to for ensuring an even more “#Bahamazing” event.”

Presenters collectively grafted each volunteer into the updated operations and enhanced experience of the volunteer division and how integral they were to the game’s overall success.

Last year, some 1,300 plus individuals throughout the country applied to volunteer during the inaugural event. From that initial inflow, some 900 plus were selected and thus volunteered during the IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2014.

Mackey, noted that the LOC determined to re-engage approximately 600 of those who volunteered during last year’s event.

The IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2015 will take place on May 2nd and May 3rd at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.
