Athletes are beginning to pour into Nassau for this Sunday's grand Celebrate Victory with Team Bahamas Olympic Team.

Sprinter Anthonique "Q" Strachan will start off by touching down this afternoon (Thursday) from Ft. Lauderdale as she journeyed from Atlanta.

Tomorrow is when we will finally see the arrival of the bronze medal-winning men's 400-meter relay team, including veteran speedster Chris "Fireman" Brown, Alonzo Russell, Michael Mathieu and Demetrius Pinder and Steven Gardiner. They are arriving from various destinations tomorrow, when legend triple jumper Leevan "Superman" Sands will fly in on Bahamasair in the evening.

Quarter miler Christine Amertil comes in from Toronto, Canada on Saturday when the remaining members arrive from the United States.

Finalist hurdler Pedrya Seymour also arrives tomorrow on the tail end of high jumper Trevor Berry whose high jump teammate Donald Thomas is supposed to be in Nassau already as in the case of another sprinter Steven Newbold. We will also get a chance to meet the Bahamas first Olympian rower Emily Morley when she is introduced on stage Sunday as well.

Gold-medal winning 400-meter runner Shaunae Miller, who previously made a brief tour around town after the Rio Games, should be in Nassau as she is schedule to visit her old high school St. Augustine's College this week. She will be at the event on Sunday to celebrate with the rest of her athletic teammates since seeing them in Rio, Brazil.

The extreme effort to get all of these athletes home under one room on a single day to celebrate as a team were led by Margarite "Muggy" Wilson of the Ministry of Sports and Makeva Wallace of Buttons Formal Wear, the company that is organizing Sunday's ceremonial celebration at Melia Nassau Beach Hotel starting at 3p.m.

Led by the athletes themselves along with Olympic athletics coach Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie, who's now a staff member at the University of Houston, everyone in attendance will relive the Rio Olympic Games experience in a 2-hour programme before taking part in a motorcade to Arawak Cay.

Golden Girl member Debbie took the initiative in getting Tommy Stubbs and his team at Buttons to organize these celebrations in association with the Bahamas Olympic Committee and Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture. Buttons is well known for its quality production of the spectacular annual Bahamas Bridal Show since 1990 and the recent Pain & Glory pro boxing events.

Now, not because Buttons is a formalwear store mean you have to dress up. The dress code for Sunday's event is smart casual. This is NOT a banquet.

Some of our early-arriving Olympians will be special guests at Government House on a courtesy call tomorrow afternoon.

Prime Minister of the Bahamas the Hon. Perry Christie and Ministry of Youth Sports & Culture Minister the Hon. Danny Johnson are expected to make brief remarks at the official celebration for our 61-member Bahamas Olympic team at 3p.m. this Sunday at Melia Nassau Beach Hotel.

Persons needing Event Passes for this special event are urged to contact Buttons Formal Wear without delay to as ballroom seating at Melia is running out.

Event passes are priced at $50 at Buttons located in the Cable Beach Shopping or call 327-8896 or 421-9783 to make reservations. Part proceeds of this event is to cover expenses for organizing the event.
