“Pancho” Rahming National Track and Field Championship Gets Underway

NASSAU, The Bahamas - Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Dr. Daniel Johnson officially opened the 33rd Annual Frank “Pancho” Rahming National Primary School Track and Field Championship on Wednesday, May 18, at the Thomas A. Robinson Sports Centre.  Minister Johnson announced at a press conference a week prior that this annual primary school track and field meet, organized by Frank “Pancho” Rahming for the past 33 years, would henceforth be named in Mr. Rahming’s honour.

The championship, which runs until Friday, May 20, are being held by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and sponsored by corporate entities.

Primary school athletes compete in the 400 metres, 200 metres, 100 metres, shot putt, high jump, triple jump, softball throw, and long jump events among others, to culminate in a Medal Presentation on the last day.

Evon Wisdom, director of Sports in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced that other events such as Judo and Fencing would be added to the championships in 2017.
