Donte Armbrister Swinging His Way To The Quarter Finals

(July 26) In the second day of main draw Junior International Tennis Championships(JITIC), Sydney Clarke faced Maria Rivera from Guatemala and lost  2-6,3-6.  Sydney Clarke who won her match yesterday for her ticket into the Girls Quarterfinals played very well but was not able to advance into the semi-finals. Sydney was able to reach to the semi finals in last year’s U14 JITIC. Her U16 quarterfinals performance is a positive follow up to her prior JITIC results and is a noteworthy accomplishment. Sydney plays Laura Quezada from Dominican Republic. Afrika Smith played really well against Ana Sofia Segura of El Salvador in the Girls Main Draw Consolation but  lost 3-6,4-6.  Afrika plays Zima Osorio from Curacao. Both Sydney and Afrika made it to the main draw competition after qualifying in round robin matches.

On the Boys side Donte Armbrister was victorious in second round Main Draw 6-4,6-3.  Due to a great round robin performance Donte received a bye into the second round today. Donte has not lost a match so far in competition as he won his two round robin matches in qualifyers and is ranked 3rd in the main draw. In the second round Donte played Guillermo Torres of Puerto Rico.   Kofi Bowe played at a high level in consolation but lost to Mateo Quiros of El Salvador 4-6,2-6.  Wednesday Kofi plays Ruben Pinchas from Jamaica. Kofi is also participating in the U14 JITIC taking place next week in El Salvador.

Tomorrow U16 matchplay continues as Sydney, Afrika and Kofi continue to display their tennis skills.  Donte Armbrister moves on to the Boys Quarterfinals where he plays Patrick Sydow from Aruba.    Donte is coming off a splendid U14 JITIC finals appearance in the prior year.  As he now moves on up to the U16 category he is competing well and is representing The Bahamas in this regional tennis tournament.

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association(BLTA) wishes all the players well as they continue play tomorrow in San Salvador, El Salvador.

The JITIC competition has the top juniors in the Caribbean and Latin America competing for the title of the 'best of the best' in Junior Tennis in the region.
