Freeport, Bahamas – Now in its 7th year, the Annual Sands Golf Tournament took place on March 12, 2017 at the pristine Fortune Hills Golf Course on picturesque Grand Bahama Island. This Sands sponsored sporting event has, since its inception, attracted scores of male and female golf enthusiasts, novices and long-time players in an effort to encourage sportsmanship and comradery.

“We have been sponsoring this tournament for a while now and each time it has been well supported and received by the golfers on Grand Bahama who are playing for a year’s worth of bragging rights and prizes,” Sands explained. “Everyone enjoys and looks forward to it”.

This year’s event was no exception with as many as 60 persons pre-registering for the event once it was announced. On game day, as many as 160 golfers – many of them return participants –  turned up to tee off on the greens as individuals and as part of teams. Playing for the Brewery, were CEO Jimmy Sands, Donnie Roberts Jr, Ricardo Laing and Joern Durselen.

The format of the tournament was a two-person scramble, with a minimum of six drives from each player. There was a blind draw between 'low' and 'high handicap players, with the team handicap calculated as 70% of the low player's handicap and 30% of the high player's handicap. There was also a separate section for those who have entered to play for a more fun in the sun experience.

After an exciting day of play, the brewery team of Laing, Sands, Durselen and Roberts took top honours in the Men’s Division while among the competition’s female golfers, the team of Taylor and Franklyn were awarded the top prize.

Overall the 7th annual Sands Beer Golf Tournament, the day was filled with fun laughter and sportsmanship which could not be coordinated or executed without the continued support of Grand Bahama’s Golfing Community.
