Sporting Bahamians to be recognised on November 22nd

NASSAU, The Bahamas -- “This illustrious group of 21 outstanding Bahamian inductees will increase the membership in the National Sports Hall of Fame to 112,” said  Timothy Munnings, Director of Sports in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture during a press conference at the Ministry on Monday, November 11.

Mr. Munnings said the persons would be inducted in recognition and appreciation of their lifetime achievements and contribution to the national development of the country through sports.

Named to be inducted are Leroy Archer Senior; Rev. Enoch Backford II; Jacqueline P. Barnett-Bethel; Sir Arlington Butler; Bernard Livingston Bostwick; Roscow A. L. Davies; John Barrie Farrington; Alpheus ‘Hawk’ Finlayson; Eugene ‘Sonny Jiggy’ Haven; Dr. Norman Gay; Maryann Higgs-Clarke; Osborne ‘Goose’ Lockhart; Oswald Moore; Kendal Nottage; Harold Munnings Senior; Dr. Gail North-Saunders; Garth W. Rolle (Exuma); the late Basil Neymour (Grand Bahama); the late captain Hezron L. Moxey; the late Leroy ‘Mitch’ Mitchell and the late Philip ‘Smoker’ Smith.

The induction ceremony will be held Friday, November 22 at Government House and will end this year’s Sports Heritage Week which begins Saturday, November 16 with a walk/run, which will be followed immediately by an All Star Sports and Fitness Challenge.

Among other activities the inductees will attend church at St. Agnes Anglican Parish on Sunday, Nov. 17.  They will visit Government High School on Tuesday, Nov, 19 and the House of Assembly on Wednesday, November 20.
