Nassau, Bahamas - After two successful events at The National Tennis Centre and Albany Tennis Academy The Winterbotham IC Junior Tennis Series moves to Baha Mar next weekend.

This event for the development of 10’s and 12’s is designed to give all participants maximum participation on a Round Robin basis over a single weekend. As former Brazilian Davis Cup player, and Bahamas IC member, Fernando Gentil said to the juniors at the last event “This is not about winning but about development”.  Fernando added that “I was not the best 12 year old in Brazil but worked on my game to win the Orange Bowl at 18, beat Jimmy Connors and play Davis Cup for Brazil”.  Wise words from an experienced player.

The International Club of The Bahamas is putting on this series of five events to encourage a group of young Bahamians to develop as a group at this critical age for getting them in to tennis. Then hopefully it will help them on to future tennis scholarships at College which has been a popular route for many Bahamians.

As was also told to the juniors at the last event “Your competition is not each other but all the other young tennis players overseas - so work together to improve”.  The IC encourages this by its round robin format and providing a lunch each day to keep the juniors together and make friends. This time the competition will be a little stronger as several overseas players have now been attracted to this event at Baha Mar.  This achieves another IC objective of providing relatively low cost competition within The Bahamas itself and avoiding the high cost of participating overseas.

Entries close 6pm on Wednesday. Entry forms are available at tennis centres such as Baha Mar and The National Tennis Centre. Also from the main organisers Neil Mactaggart (359-0900), Kit Spencer (363-2930) , Mickey Williams (557-8307), Bradley Bain (357-5580)
