Freeport, Bahamas – Versatile Bahamian Rake n Scrape artist D-Mac performed the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival (BJC) official theme song, Amp It Up, live at the Grand Bahama Carnival Kickoff over the weekend.

“The song was written to show Bahamians can be creative and think outside the box,” said D-Mac, who gave the crowd a live sneak peak of the song for the first time. D-Mac is scheduled to perform as a featured artist on the Junkanoo carnival mega stage, Friday, May 6, where he will perform the entire song.

“When the Bahamas National Festival Commission approached me to create a song to promote Bahamian culture in the direction they wanted to go in I was overjoyed. They wanted to ensure the Bahamian element was present throughout the song, which was easy for me to do as I’ve been doing it for 20 years,” D-Mac said.

Amp It Upperfectly harnesses Bahamian Rake N Scrape in a way that energizes the crowd and portrays the Junkanoo Carnival experience.

The song surely amped up the crowd as people could be seen jumping and whining excitedly to the appealing rhythms of the song, during its debut.

The song itself details the experience persons can expect to have at Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival. “Amp up the music, soak up the culture and turn up the vibes” are phrases heard throughout the song. They represent the three core brand segments of the festival, which seeks to deliver the perfect dose of music, culture and vibes to festival goers.

While keeping with the new rebranding of Junkanoo Carnival, D-Mac said it was important to him that the integrity of Bahamian culture was maintained in creating the song.

“The rebranding of carnival is excellent. It is clear that a lot of thought went into it and it has evolved since the first year,” said D-Mac.

“They had to go back to the drawing board and tweak it; and now it is gradually making that transition to where it needs to be. My only challenge was maintaining the integrity of Junkanoo and the foundation of rake n scrape. The theme is a great plan and I saw where they were going with it and I’m happy to be a part of it,” he said.

Tickets are now on sale for the Nassau leg of Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival. They can be purchased at any Cash & Go location or online at BahamasJunkanooCarnival.com.
