Freeport Grand Bahama Island - Friday Sept 7, 2018 Bahamas Federation of Performing arts (BFPA) held it's second Legal Round Table discussion with a very engaged audience at the C.A. Smith Building Training Room. The presenter was their Legal Affairs Director, Jacy Whittaker who delved further into the legal steps one must take in order to protect their creative works via Copyright, Trademarks and patents. At times the audience was quite shocked by the realities pertaining to creative rights protection in The Bahamas and the limitations Vis-a-vis the United States.

The event was free for BFPA members and $5 for non members. The information attendees received would have cost several hundred dollars or more to have their questions answered as they were at the Legal Round Table.

The Federation is planning Pen to Paper 2, a writers workshop, which is scheduled to take place September 24th at the C.A. Smith complex. More info soon to follow.

About The Bahamas Federation of Performing Arts

Following the directive of the Ministry of Youth Sports & Culture in collaboration with the Parliamentary Secretary for information and communication to form associations uniting artisans connected to various aspects of Arts and Culture in The Bahamas, The Bahamas Federation of Performing Arts was formed. The purpose of the BFPA is to establish Grand Bahama Island as the central hub for film, television and stage productions in The Bahamas. The second task is to create job opportunities, certification programs, host workshops and training sessions in all areas of the performing Arts. The BFPA has a calendar full of suggestions for exchange programs, film festivals, and networking mixers that will open the curtains for Bahamian artisans to promote their talents globally. Persons and organizations wishing to join BFPA can do so HERE.
