Freeport, Bahamas
- Acclaimed artists
Maxwell
Taylor and Claudette Dean. will open
their joint art exhibition on Saturday April 19th 2014 at The
Grand Gallery at 7pm. The public will have a rare opportunity
to experience the combined talents of these two gifted
artists in their exhibition entitled “Perspectives - The Real & The Imagined”. Both artists originally exhibited their pieces in solo and group exhibitions in Nassau earlier this year but thought
it necessary to bring their work to Grand Bahama to satisfy the growing
appetite for original art by both Bahamian and international artists.
Maxwell Taylor is a celebrated artist; he has appeared alongside iconic Bahamian artists Amos Ferguson, Brent Malone, Antonius
Roberts, Eddie Minnis and other eminent artists in the documentary, “Artists of the Bahamas." While distinguished for his
paintings his woodcut technique sets him apart from other
artists. Woodcut is the art of print making; it consists of an image being carved onto the surface of wood, covered in ink and transferred on paper. Max will be demonstrating his woodcut at the opening of
Perspectives - The Real & The Imagined. In
addition, Mr Taylor will conduct a session during the day (Saturday)
from 2 - 3:30pm for students and interested persons.
Claudette
Dean is an established artist well-known for her whimsical striking oil
paintings. She occasionally uses clay, encaustics & mixed media.
Her work is a part of the country’s permanent national art collection
and she has been honoured by the Commonwealth of the Bahamas for
her outstanding achievements in the realm of fine arts.
Claudette’s work is also a part of the Dawn Davies collection
featured in the book “Love and Responsibility” which was recently presented to the Pope by the Prime Minister of the Bahamas on an
official state visit to the Vatican.
Gallery administrator, Toshyia Francois notes that this exhibition is very
diverse and will have a variety of pieces that suit various pocketbooks
and will appeal to the tastes of art enthusiasts and collectors. The
student of art will find two accomplished artists who they can
understudy and probe for insights on how they can improve their craft.
Through
this collection both artists transform innovative and imaginative ideas
into reality. Their creativity is personified by their perception of the world in different ways and to establish connections amongst seemingly unrelated and related wonders.
This
exhibition marks The Grand Gallery’s third exhibition for the year and much like the previous exhibitions The Grand Gallery expect to welcome Bahamians and visitors from all walks of life to this inspirational exhibition. Guests to the gallery, which
is situated on Retail Street at The Grand Lucayan, will be able to
interact with both artists and also exchange views with other guests
over a glass of wine or cider.
