The Bahamas Represents at Carib Style Week 2016

Bahamian top model, Tommii Culmer, not only looked great at the event, but she was the Carib Style Week on-camera media host for their video productions.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.  - Carib Style Week 2016 honoured June’s Caribbean Heritage Month with a lively series of food and fashion fusion events as well as the Carib Style Pop Up Shop. Held from June 23-26, festivities included the VIP Reception, Carnival Rocks the Runway, Westfield Experience, Epicurean by Design, and Bikinis & Brunch.

From June 19-30, Bahamian jewelry designer, Chevette Williamson exhibited in the Carib Style Pop Up Shop showcased local Caribbean designers at the Westfield Broward Mall.  Shoppers got the chance to browse trendy styles from 15 talented designers including Sonia Noel of Guyana and Keisha Als of Trinidad and Tobago.

The VIP Reception hosted prominent figures from the Caribbean community at the Renaissance Hotel in Plantation. The week’s opening ceremony brought in designers, deejays, and other cultural leaders from many Caribbean countries.

During the vibrant performance of Carnival Rocks The Runway, seven popular masquerade revealed their colorful costumes for the upcoming Miami Broward One Carnival. 5Star Akil and DJ Puffy energized the runway with high-tempo shows.

The Westfield Experience, hosted by the Westfield Broward Mall, included the Carib Beauty Bar and Travel & Commerce Expo. A pop-up runway fashion show, which was open to the public, highlighted designers from the adjacent Pop Up Shop.

In a fusion of food and fashion at Epicurean by Design, models displayed couture designs from luxury brands Franz Christie and Louca Bell. Top Caribbean chefs prepared sample platters and were judged by a celebrity panel on “best dressed plate” and “food taste.” Chef Khiah Cameron won with her gourmet Trinidadian pork belly.

Bikinis & Brunch wrapped up the week with mimosas and brunch. A swimwear fashion show with labels such as Chandra Maharaj and Vdezdras dazzled guests on the sunny rooftop of the W Hotel Ft. Lauderdale.

“Carib Style Week was a huge success for the designers, for the city, and for everyone else involved,” said Chief Specialist of Aifos Agency Asa Sealy, who produced the week’s events, “with growing support from city officials, Caribbean fashion is sure to break into the popular U.S. market.”
