Vice president of the Grand Bahama Entertainers, Musicians and Artists Association, Nat Cambridge has formed a new band in Grand Bahama.

"Grand Bahamian live music has, for some time now, been on the decline until recently with the advent of some new faces entering the scene. However, even with these new faces popping up here and there, the live music entertainment scene continues to be dominated by what I term '60 year old entertainers, presenting 40 year old material for 20 year old audiences,' said Cambridge. "Grand Bahama is long overdue time for a serious effort to pass the baton to those young, talented and aspiring entertainers. To invest in them the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the entertainment business and the “business” of entertainment. To that end I present to you First Taste."

First Taste is an initiative spearheaded by myself. After many unsuccessful attempts at convincing civic, governmental organizations and private businesses to invest in my numerous ideas geared toward development of youth in this specific genre of entertainment I have decided to forge ahead and do whatever I can to cause my vision for youth in live music entertainment to become as much a reality as I can cause it to be. In my search for talent I have gone to karaoke nights, choir concerts, even Face-Book, and every nook and cranny where I thought I could find talented young persons looking for that opportunity to learn how to professionally express themselves and share their gifts through the portal of live presentation of music. Hence, I created the “First Taste” initiative."

“First Taste” consists of six musicians, I and a group of young, supremely talented Grand Bahamian singers:

· Leo Heart: An exciting and immensely talented Grand Bahamian entertainer and an accomplished recording artist known and recognized nationally. His music features prominently on the Grand Bahamian and national pop scene and has become a mainstay on the pop radio in the country. Leo has been booked and performing solo in local clubs and concerts throughout The Bahamas and has now made the faithful leap towards true live music entertainment.

· Alexandria “Inspire” James: a solo lead vocalist known for her pop genre style, Alex’s face is very familiar on Grand Bahama’s theatre and choir scene, having been and continuing to be featured in the GBYC and at local live music events. Alex delivers the style and sophistication worth of her stage tag “Inspyre”

· Grier “Vixxy” Munroe: A popular Grand Bahamian singer, this vibrant and exciting young up and coming star brings tremendous energy and charisma to the stage while her voice is reminiscent of Gloria Gainer and Chaka Kahn. Belting out songs from Byonce and other current pop figures “Vixxy” is sure to excite.

· Zhivargo Laing Jr. Smooth and sultry, “Vargo”, has a voice that echoes the tone of Beres Hammond coupled with the range and presence John Legend. This cool, calm and collected young balladeer wows you with his vocal prowess and awe inspiring embellishments.

· Raphiel “Smooed “ Miller : A Grand Bahamian reggae recording artist and reggae music aficionado, “Raffi” belts the tunes of Jah Cure and Chris Martain, Bob Marley and Jimmy Clif with a style and flare sure to bring you to your feet and to the dance floor

· Donvarcia “Varcy” Duncombe: The voice of a goddess and the style of a diva. “Varcy” graces the stage with her presence while she wows the audience with the voice of an angel, delivering soul stirring ballads and pop classics from names like Whitney Houston and Anita baker.

From all walks of life and all strata of Grand Bahamian Society, brought together to form Grand Bahama’s newest Live Music Entertainment sensation. The “First Taste Band”

But, “First Taste” is not just about the presentation of live music entertainment alone, it’s not just about guiding these young talents in the art of delivering their talents to an audience in class style and with charisma. It’s not just about preparing these young aspiring live music entertainers to be well rounded, functional and successful lead talents. Its more than just getting them to a place where each of them can, at a moment’s notice, lead just about any well rounded pop band through three full three sets of live music entertainment. “First Taste” is also about the business of entertainment. The young front line talents of “First Taste” are also called on to form “The Committee”. Each of these are given the opportunity to work behind the scenes and get to know what the business of live music entertainment entails. They sit in meetings with vendors and prospective clients. They scout venues for prospects, and they team up, with me, to make decisions in all facets of the development, planning, logistics and execution events and performances. The committee is responsible for the marketing, advertising, sales, logistics and development of “First Taste”. It is my hope and endeavor, that through the course of this exercise, each of these young talented and brilliant individuals will gain the skills and knowledge and experience to move on to establishing their own live music entertainment outlet and in every way be equipped to lead it to success. That they will be well versed in the development of the music, structure, face and functions of a live music entertainment entity.

On Saturday, May 3rd 2014 “First Taste” will hit the stage for its first full performance. The event, dubbed “The Debut” is an after dinner show and will be held in the Delphenes Room at Canal House, Pelican Bay. Doors will open at 7:00 pm and the show will begin, promptly, at 8:00 pm. These six young and extremely talented Bahamians entertainment up and comers will be featured in grand style on a grand stage overlooking the Bell Channel and will be backed up by the “First Taste Band” musical team headed by Masters Patrick Victor and Glen Sands (keyboardists), accompanied by Bassist-Mr. Jimmy Lightbourne, Guitarist-Mr. Peterson Pinder and Drummers-Lamar Coverley and Desmond Rolle. Sound and stage will be provided by noted Grand Bahamian sound engineer Jarvin “Dr. Funk” Roberts. Tickets, which are $25.00 general admission and $35.00 VIP entitle each guest to a free a free drink and light Hors d'oeuvre and will be available by calling 242-441-8439.
